Toyota Certified or ABC Motors Certified…..Difference?
New car stores, Used car lots and independent “experts” all may try to sell you a “Certified Used Vehicle”, but what are the differences between Toyota Certified and ABC Certified?
Toyota Certified Used Vehicles are sold within a factory set group of rules providing customers peace of mind. Some of these items include….
- 3-month/3,000-mile Comprehensive Warranty
- 7-year/100,000-mile Limited Powertrain Warranty
- 7-year/100,000-mile Roadside Assistance Plan
- 160-Point Quality Assurance Inspection
- CARFAX Vehicle History Report
The biggest differentiator in this set is the fact that these guidelines are not set by the car dealer themselves or an insurance company that does not at least spot-check these vehicles. Toyota sends independent contractors to monitor dealer’s practices and spot-check vehicles on an unannounced basis. I don’t know about every dealer, but would it make sense that they hire an independent company to inspect “guidelines” they put in place themselves?
Location of the dealer you buy your next “certified” vehicle could become a major source of inconvenience or worse at some dealers who require you to bring your “certified” vehicle to them for any covered issues. Many insurance backed programs require the consumer to pay up front for warranty repairs and wait for reimbursement.
When the emotion of buying a new vehicle makes a consumer forget about the actual ownership of a vehicle and the service involved sometimes these added features seem to lose perceived value. The reality is that with a factory backed protection plan a consumer has not only better protection and the peace of mind that Toyota brings, but also the flexibility that goes with the large new car dealer network they have.
